There is no universal service life
Carbon life depends on contaminant concentration, flow, competing molecules, humidity or water chemistry, temperature, contact time and the mass of carbon installed.
Monitor breakthrough
Define an outlet trigger and sample at consistent intervals. A rising outlet concentration, odor return or process-quality change may indicate that the bed is approaching breakthrough.
Plan safe replacement
Use lead-lag vessels where uninterrupted treatment is required. Characterize spent carbon, follow local waste rules and review whether regeneration is technically and economically suitable.
